
Philippine Dance Ensemble
Under the Artistic Direction of Linda Bishop the Philippine Dance Ensemble is a dynamic and versatile cultural dance troupe that showcases the rich heritage of the Philippine folk dance while also embracing a wider range of genres including Latin, Jazz, contemporary and other cultural dances .Founded in Canberra in 1981 the ensemble has been a vibrant Ambassador of Filipino culture performing at numerous multicultural events and festivals such as the Easter Show, Canberra Floriade ,Cherry Picking Festival Spring Festival and the PCC National Ball. This is the 10th year performance at Banag Ball.
The ensemble’s impressive portfolio includes performances at the inconic Sydney Opera House as part of the Shell National Folkloric Festival from 1981- 1994. Regular weekend performance at Darling Harbour, International Travel shows at Darling Harbour and appearances in various clubs in Sydney ( South Sydney Juniors , Burwood RSL, Catholic club etc ) as a part of the International Night Show and Manila by Night. Also had tge previledge of sharing the stage with Filipino renowned Filipino Celebrities including Nonoy Zuniga, David Pomerance, Jose Mari Chan, Kuh Ledesma, Pilita Corrales. Freddie Aguilar, Marco Sison and Dulce Amor.
Beyond entertainment the Philippine Dance Ensemble is committed to giving back to the community . Regularly visit nursing homes to entertain and bring joy to elderly residents spreading love and positivity through dance . It also participated in numerous charity events including relief efforts for natural disaster such as Mt Pinatubo disaster Typhoon Ondoy, Sendong, Yolanda as well as supporting Australian bushfire appeals . The ensemble also support the Seventh Day Adventist Medical mission to the Philippines reflecting its dedication to using the arts for social good.
Through its performances and community outreach the Philippine Dance Ensemble continues to promote cross cultural understanding appreciation and exchange while celebrating the rich cultural heritage of the Philippines .
