Banag-Banag
Incorporated
It is a not-for-profit organisation representing
the Bisaya-Speaking community of the Philippines. The name Banag-Banag
is derived from the word “dawn” signifying a vision of a new day, a new
beginning so full of hope for the future.
Description of the
organization
Banag Banag is an Australian-registered, not for
profit organization of Filipino-Australians whose heritage can be traced
back to the Bisaya speaking Visayas and Mindanao regions of the Republic
of the Philippines. Over the years as explicitly stated in our
objectives, we have embarked on a number of charitable works both here
in Australia and in the Philippines. Examples of our on-going and future
projects are:
Annual scholarship program for four (6) financially
disadvantaged students to attend a one-year industrial welding course at
Don Bosco Technological Centre at Balamban, Cebu. All twenty (20)
previous graduates are now fully employed and providing for their
families support Bethlehem Day Care Centre in Cebu and the Bethlehem
Communities in Australia who provide social housing, and education to
underprivileged children who live in dump-sites at Inayawan, Cebu "Quick
Response Disaster Assistance Fund"- We supplied relief goods to the
families of victims of typhoons Ondoy and Frank in Pavia, Ilo-ilo and
Marikina, and also provided some funds for the rebuilding of a church at
Dinagat Island, Surigao del Norte, Philippines installation of pumpable
deep-water wells (POSO in the bisaya dialect) some of which are already
installed in strategic locations in Cebu, Leyte and Bohol.

~Promote activities that will enhance the physical, mental and social well-being of the members of the Visayan-speaking community

~Preserve and enrich the cultural heritage and identity of the Visayan-speaking group though its interaction with other Filipino cultural groups and the wider Australian community

~Sponsor activities that will encourage friendship and camaraderie with other Filipino associations and similar Australian ethnic associations

~Provide assistance and contact points for new arrival immigrants in whatever manner possible

~Provide support and assistance to members of the association and their immediate families in time of need, suffering, sickness, and death

~Provide assistance to charitable organisations and other groups promoting worthwhile activities

~Afford members a chance for equal leadership development opportunities in the association
